FAQ

  • Are your services covered by extended health benefits?

You may be able to have these services covered through your extended health benefits plan. Some companies have a special spending account — sometimes called Health Spending Account — for services like these. Insurance plans differ greatly so it is your responsibility to ensure you will be reimbursed if you plan on claiming your consulting sessions. Consulting may also be considered a medical expense for Revenue Canada.

  • I don’t believe in letting my baby cry it out. Can you help me?

Yes, I can help. I have worked with many families uncomfortable with letting their babies cry. We came up with a strategy and solutions with which they felt comfortable. All of my recommendations serve to make this change as easy on baby (and thus, as easy on you) as possible. But because we are making changes, particularly in how you’re responding to your baby around sleep, there is likely to be some crying. All of my suggestions consider the latest in sleep science, child development and attachment. My approach is anchored by mindfulness, and always honours a family’s values, personalities and temperaments, child’s age, health and development, parents’ health and wellness and the breastfeeding relationship.

  • What sleep training methods do you use and recommend? Do you subscribe to one method for all?

I am well-versed in a variety of methods proven to help children sleep better. I encourage a gentle approach that parents feel comfortable with and supports the child where they are at. We work together to come up with a sleep plan that feels good for you and that will help you achieve your sleep goals for your family.

  • My child is 7 years old. Can you help me?

Yes! It’s never too late to establish a healthy sleep foundation. If what you’ve been doing is not working, I can help. I have worked with families with older children with great success. Sometimes it just takes a few seemingly minor changes to see improvements, other times it's a bit more involved, but either way, I've got the knowledge and experience to help get your family sleeping better.

  • My baby is 1 week old. Can you help me?

Yes! I work with families who are expecting a baby and those who have a newborn in the house. At this age, the focus is on managing expectations, laying the foundation for independent sleep when your baby is older, and discussing gentle strategies you can use now.
