“With Jessica’s help, he sleeps in his crib for all naps and at night. He is able to go anywhere between 5-7 hours in one stretch. We’re both better rested now… [and] we are a much happier family.”
NEWBORN SLEEP
0-12 weeks
Congratulations! Whether you’re expecting a baby or your baby is newly earthside, whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, this is an exciting and exhausting time. One thing that will help your new situation is sleep, and I would like to help. Newborns need a lot of sleep, and in the first few weeks, there’s not much you can do to stop them from getting it. This is a lovely period when babies can and will sleep whenever they want. As they grow and mature, there are many things parents and caregivers can do to prioritize and support their baby’s developing sleep. It can be helpful to know what you can expect from your baby’s sleep, as unrealistic expectations can lead to struggle and stress.

Common Newborn Sleep Questions
It’s likely you have a lot of questions. Where should my baby sleep? Should I swaddle? Should I use a soother? Is my baby’s sleep normal? When will my baby start sleeping for longer stretches at night? What can I expect in the next few weeks and months? How can I help my baby get the sleep they need? I can provide the reassurance and answers you seek, which are unique to your baby and family.
What You Can Expect
Parents can expect to have specific questions answered, such as what are reasonable expectations for a newborn and how many hours should they sleep and nap, as well as a thorough assessment of the sleep environment. We’ll discuss developing a pre-sleep routine, including gentle, newborn-appropriate sleep strategies to start trying as you build toward independent sleep skills. We’ll also review safe-sleep guidelines and discuss postpartum mental health.
